    Name Your Game

    Dream or real?

Dream = what you'd like to see ported to Vista

Real = what is available in Vista

    Name Your Game

    REAL

One of the first for Vista is also the most intriguing for all the incredible detail and reality UbiSoft put into it:

    Silent Hunter 4

DREAM - Resistance: Fall of Man. I have absolutely no intention of playing it, but it would just be fun for Sony to lose yet another of their exclusive titles. You said Dream, right?

REAL - Having fun working my way through Neverwinter Nights 2 at the moment. RPGs will be the death of me.

    Well, on that note:

Dream: Motorstorm - the only PS3 game I want to play, but it's unlikely to be worth the £465 I'd have to pay to get it.  A PC version with a Direct3d10 overhaul would be nice

Real: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl - as creepy as F.E.A.R, but less claustrophobic and bland - and its finally here and its great, if a little buggy at the moment. (frequent crashing to desktop when trying to save!), but I'm thoroughly enjoying it regardless.  Theres something quite fascinating about the Chernobyl disaster - a whole town and a massive area just abandoned over the space of a few days, only to be slowly reclaimed by wildlife and vegetation, but not mutants as depicted in the game!  The fact that the danger that keeps people out cannot be seen but heard through clicks on a giga-counter makes it all the more mysterious.

I think it's primarily this factor that attracts me to Stalker as well. I've always been very interested in abandoned places, like asylums and hospitals and so forth, and so Chernobyl is like the grand daddy of all abandoned sites. From what i've heard, Stalker nails it.

    Re: Name Your Game

Stalker certainly does nail it, but I wish I hadn't started playing it until it had been patched.  A new patch has just been released that fixes a lot of the issues with the engine and the saving issues, as well as a bucket-load of online fixes, but the pre-patch save games won't work with it apparently, so I'll have to start again.

Have you looked at Yakuza? There's a lot to the game - some right, some wrong - but the fighting mechanics reminds me a hell of a lot of Streets of Rage. If you can stand games that aren't fantastic, but attempt to do some interesting things, give it a try.
