    WHAT A FLIPPIN' RIPOFF . . .

What a flippin' ripoff!!!  No where on the comparision chart that I used did I see that MS had deleted the ability to fax from anything but Business or Ultimate.  I rarely need a fax, but when I do need one I NEED one.  I don't want to pay another $160+ to upgrade to Ultimate.  Sigh - what moron/beencounter (my apologies to those of you who are accountants by trade or family) pulled this one off?  Now I have to try and find something (software) to fax with.

Oh well, at least I still have my full blown XP (which is still, and will be for quite a while) as my main OS.  Sigh, and I was so happy with the install this evening.

I dunno - because Business is somehow above Premium does that mean it's better.  Better for businesses maybe who do not want their emloyees playing DVD's at work.  However, I've not come across anything I need to do yet that Premium can't handle.  As far as the fax.... Although you will not find the old winfax anywhere, you can send a fax using internet sites.

Don't think anyone said Premium is better lol.  I might have said Business, is better for business maybe.  Because it doesn't include media centre or other features like Windows DVD Maker but has supposedly more advanced netwroking and backup features.  When you look at the pricing, because Business costs more doesn't make it a better O/S than Premium is what I'm saying.  Horses for courses.  A home user may not need the advanced features but may benefit from media player.

The point I was making is that Business is not a better O/S than Premium.

    Bruce941,

It is a ripoff, but for less than the $160+ to upgrade to a different version of Windows Vista, and rather than having to boot another OS, you could just buy a third party fax solution. I use  FaxTalk's Vista Fax Software called FaxCenter Pro. It is easy to use and it is only $59 bucks. Much better deal than having to upgrade OS.

I run Basic and get along fine. OK it doesn`t have Media Centre or the fancy Aero. But most people who do have Aero turn it off saying it just slows them down anyway. I can watch TV on numerous websites now so why have Media Centre ? I think the only thing I would really like is the Auto Back-up software that all the other versions have .Leaving this out of Basic was a big mistake. Also I can`t understand why they never included the Snipping Tool, but there are other free ones to download so , once again I`m not missing out too badly.

If you have never tried Basic then don`t just go on what other people say .

Having said all this, I think the next computer , whether laptop or desktop, will include Premium or better simply so I can see what the areo is like but mainly so I don`t have to do manual backups all the time.
