Computer [co] Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

    Hi everyone,

In Issue 20, we're trying to find out how Service Pack 1 has affected your PC since you installed it. So we'd like to know whether it's made your PC run better, worse, or whether it's not had a noticeable effect.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll publish the results in Issue 20 of Windows Vista: The Official Magazine.

    Thanks,

    Nick

Re: Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

    Hell, yes!

I had glitches with Windows Explorer and, what bugged me most, Internet Explorer 7. The computer started up and after I entered my password and logged on, I would see a black screen with nothing on it dor about 2 minutes. After that, the taskbar would appear along with the desktop.

But after I installed SP1, everything is just fine.

Somebody tell me, please, why can't Microsoft release a fully-functional product (like Apple does) that does not require any heavy SPs that take the whole night to download??? Why couldn't they wait for another xouple of months, fix ALL the bugs so that you can actually USE Windows Vista without counting days until a SP release??

Apple?, Service Packs? - isn't every incremental release of OSX basically a service pack?.

Vista was functioning properly prior to going RTM, I used my RC1 install untill it expired and never had any issues with it (apart from Creative's drivers being useless).

Re: Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

My boot times are a lot better, 1 min 25 sec from power on to all applications and this includes the sidebar and logged on to the web. It was 2 min 35 sec before SP-1. I have an HP notebook and upgraded to SP-1 on the 23rd of April. J.B.

    Not really.

I knew most of the updateswouldn't affect me that much?

Re: Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

I have an HP laptop and after installing Service Pack 1 it wouldn't wake up from Sleep, which was annoying - I had to power the PC off and on again. I reported it to Microsoft support and they were very helpful. The fix was to flash my BIOS with update software. HP's automatic update service didn't detect that the BIOS needed updating (even though I ran it straight after installing SP1 to pick up any SP1 specific HP updates).

After that, SP1 ran just fine, but there are no visible signs of improvement (e.g. performance).

Re: Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

I had difficulty after installing  SP 1  due to the installation package knocking out my motherboard sound files. If I had not been experienced I would not have known what to do but this is not my first experience with Vista updates interfering with the sound files. I am using an Asus M2nE Sli (Australia) motherboard which is always kept up to date. As for running better I have not noticed any difference especially with file transfers.

Re: Has Service Pack 1 made your PC run better?

    Yes.

Had no trouble installing SP1 and computer seemed to run better.

Recently upgraded RAM from 1Gb to 4Gb and installed Nvidia 8600GT graphics card and increased Windows experience index from 3.4 to 5.0.
