Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

the set up disk that comes with the install is for xp set up not vista, once you have been installed connect the ethernet cable and ring VM tell them you are setting up account on a vista machine and they WILL be able to talk you through set up in minutes as long as you have your account details (usually sent in a letter prior to install by the engineer) and modem mac code this is all it took to get me up and running.

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

    Hi.

Ihad a Motorola Surfboard 5100 modem which works ok with Virgin and then had a Scientific Atlanta 2100 which also works ok.

Use ethernet.Connect the modem but not to power, connect power and it will load uop ok.

On Vista if u try to set it up,it guides you and finds the details for you

Yes I was surprised how easy it was to get on line, and I'm a beginner

Can also confirm had Virgin Media connected in seconds using ethernet on new Dell PC with Vista Home Prem.

However, wouldn't have known "how too" without visiting this site first!!  Virgin aren't exactly forthcoming with this essential advice.

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

I am coming to the end of my rope with VM and their inability to assist with my connection to the internet.  I wasn't warned by the sales team that I would have problems connecting with Windows Vista..... anyway, it's been 17 hours later and I'm still not up and running after following their "four easy steps" (which is actually 5 in the booklet).

One of my main problems is that I cannot connect to a 090-number in order to call their help line (due to my mobile phone provider) and I've tried a phone card, but this won't allow it either.  Apparently, VM cannot connect to this number either, because it's a premium rate number.

Since the engineer came to perform the connection, I have been attempting to set-up the broadband on my Windows Vista laptop. After first trying the supplied CD I have also tried the online installation from ttps://autoreg.autoregister.net

The connection to the autoregister server appears to be extremely slow and unreliable. I keep getting error messages saying that the pages cannot be displayed. I have tried all the recommended steps to resolve this including powering off the router and restarting my laptop.  After many attempts, it finally came up with my user name, password, email, webpage and then it says it is at the final step to getting connnect and......wait......page cannot be displayed.

I went back to the start of autoregister and it now says that I am registered.  However - when I try the internet (google, bbc) it won't connect.  It is "currently online, but not responding to connection attempts at this time.  Windows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this connection.  There is a remote firewall preventing this connection, contact your internet provider to allow through TCP port 80".

Is anyone else having similar problems or had these problems resolved?? I would be so so so very grateful if you could let me know how it was resolved - especially if it does not mean ringing their support staff.

    Cheers!

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

I've been with NTL (now Virgin, cable) for the past 3 years, the modem (ethernet) they gave me back then is the same one I'm using now. I've been using XP all the time and just this month I have upgraded to Vista, everything's been fine so far. I cant say anything about msn, as I've been with Yahoo and YM and that works fine as well, Skype works fine too!

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

    Hi,

Anyone know if it's possible to get the VM broadband running through a USB connection with the Ambit modem?? I am well aware that ethernet is the better type of connection but the Ambit modem I'm trying to set up with Vista is faulty and it won't work with an ethernet connection. I am going to hopefully get a replacement from VM but in the meantime, could do with a connection.

    Thanks

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

I agree with jigners....I have been with Telewest & then virgin since the beginning & have had absolutely no issues whatsoever....When connecting via ethernet, the box just connects to their service, no drivers required....

Re: Vista & Virgin broadband problems.

I've got Vista Home Premium and Virgin Broadband with no problems at all. I have a Netgear Router which Virgin supplied and it is a USB connection. I have a desktop PC and a laptop working wirelessly with no problems.
